ART hound [Geneva Anderson]: The 2ndPetaluma International Film Festival (PIFF) concludes its run of international independent film Sunday afternoon with a fabulous line-up at the Boulevard Cinemas including 5 new feature films and 10 shorts.  This gem of a festival has hardly gotten any publicity but it’s worth a look and a visit—it includes 40 important new films from 27 countries and guests from all over the world.   For me, it represents the new face of Petaluma, a town that is opening to the world and embracing its artistic hipness right along with its grass-roots hominess.  Read more

Movie on Ansari in space flight in Petaluma festival

Iran Times: The festival will feature more than 40 films from 25 countries, ranging from fiction and documentary to animation and musical.“Space Tourists,” directed by Christian Frei, features Iranian-American  Anousheh Ansari.  The Mashhad-born woman became both the first Iranian, and the first self-funded woman, to fly to the International Space Station in 2006.  The three-day Petaluma International Film Festival, set to kick off in Northern Callifornia October 22. The documentary-style film follows the real story of Ansari, who paid $20 million dollars to fund her trip to outer space. “Space Tourists” follows Ansari’s journey from training in Star City, Kazakhstan, into space—showing everyday life as it is on the International Space Station.

The film festival will be at Boulevard Cinemas in Petaluma.  Many of the filmmakers will be present for Q&A after their films screen.  More information is at: Read more
